Put simply Binaural beats is a technology that uses sound waves to help put the brain into a desired state of being.
Each state of the brain has it’s purpose. For example, in deep sleep the brain is in Delta state, Just waking the brain speeds up passing through to Theta then Alpha then Beta state which is fully alert and ready to start the day.
The discovery of binaural beats was made by Heinrich Wihelm Drove in 1839. Binaural beats are created when a pure tone for example of 300 Hz is played in the left ear while 305 Hz is played in the right ear. The listener will perceive a third tone. This third tone is called the binaural beat. The sum difference of the two pure tones, one being 300 Hz and the other 305 Hz in this case becomes 5 Hz the frequency the brain will entrain too. At 5 Hz the brain will be put into a Theta state.
There are many brainwave state charts you will often see. The most common listed are 5. Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. However the work of Dr. Jeffery Thompson and others revealed many more states exist like Epsilon 1, which is slower than Delta. As this science grows I am sure many more brain states will be discovered.
Each brainwave state has it’s own unique quality. The brainwave state is determined by the most predominant frequency present at that time, but all frequencies are always present. So one should look at the different brainwave states when put to a graph as patterns where one color becomes more vivid than the other but all frequencies are always present.
Each brainwave state has a range of frequencies that are attributed to a state. One frequency becoming more dominant than the others determines that state. Also, one will find that there is no agreed-upon frequency thresh-hold between each state. For example, some charts show Delta occurring between 0.5-4 Hz while others 0.5-3.5 Hz. So don’t be thrown off by this. Some charts call 30-40 Hz High Beta while others call this gamma.
These are 5 common brainwave states one will find with a quick search on duckduckgo.com but there are many more brain states like Hyper Gamma or Epsilon 1 not included in this chart.
